YouTube is a video-sharing website founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Hurley and Chen came up with the idea for YouTube in 2005 when they shot a video at a dinner party. Who would've known that YouTube was created from a dinner party?
I'm sure most of us watch viral videos on YouTube. Have you ever thought of creating your own channel? Here are a few tips that I have accumulated while watching popular YouTube videos.
1. Pick a creative name for your channel, and decide what types of videos you want to make. Choosing a name for your channel is important because it is going to stick with you throughout your YouTube career. You should choose a name that is creative, but easy for people to remember. Do you want to make a gaming channel, a beauty channel, or a music channel? Make the types of videos that interests you. If you like to watch certain videos, other people might watch the same videos that you like to watch.
2. Make sure your videos have good quality. If your video has terrible lighting and bad sound quality, people are not going to watch your videos. You should film in front of lights or even a well lit window so that the light is shining directly at your face. This makes your features clearly visible, and the lights will brighten up the whole area. Make sure you film your videos in a nice background. Find an area that isn't cluttered, so that the objects in the background do not cause a distraction for the viewer. Also, filming with a camera would make your videos easier to see because it does not have the poor quality of a phone.
3. Make your videos consistent and edit your videos before posting them. You should make videos frequently and upload on your channel at least once a week. If you upload on a schedule, people will expect to see new content from you on a certain day, and your subscribers will keep coming back to your channel every week on that day. Before uploading, you should use a video editing program to enhance the quality of your video and edit out the mistakes or uninteresting parts. Don't forget to give your videos creative titles, descriptions, and thumbnails. This will grab the attention of people, and will showcase your creative and unique abilities.
4. Get involved with the YouTube community, and promote your channel. Watch other people's videos and leave comments or video responses to let them know that you enjoy their types of videos. You could also collaborate with other people, and help each other make videos. Collaborating is a great way to get more recognition for your channel so that it grows, and you end up making new friends. YouTube gatherings, such as VidCon, are a great way to make friends and boost your popularity. At these events you can meet people that have subscribed to you, and you can thank your subscribers personally for watching and supporting your videos. Share your videos on other social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and interact with the people who follow your videos.
5. Have fun and be genuine in your YouTube videos. Upload videos because you love making them! Make sure that you are passionate about your channel, and have fun while making your videos. Don't be afraid to let your personality show through your videos. Don't worry about embarrassing yourself because many people can relate to you. Also, don't copy other people's videos. Be original and be your true self in all of your videos.
